We in St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary are committed to ensuring that every pupil will fulfil their potential regardless of their specific need or personal circumstances.

We maintain the principles of fairness and equity across our entire curriculum, in all aspects of the school day and in after school activities.

Mrs Hughes is our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator, (SENDCo) and, along with class teachers, would be happy to discuss your child’s specific needs with you.

We engage with partner professionals, (eg. school nurse, speech and language therapists, educational psychologist, behaviour support team, as well as others,) to ensure that we fully understand a child’s needs and make the best provision for them.

Children with special needs follow an individual education plan and provision map which is agreed and reviewed with parents and carers. Where appropriate, some children have an Education, Health and Care Plan, which is developed in conjunction with parents and carers, partner professionals and the local authority.

On 24th March 2020, Vicky Ford, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families, issued a statement regarding the provision and review of SEND in England, during the COVID-19 crisis. A copy of her letter may be downloaded here.
