Statement of Intent

St Joseph’s History curriculum intends to deliver a knowledge rich curriculum which engages all children and allows them to develop a range of skills. Our History curriculum allows children to develop coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain and the wider world’s past. Through the teaching of History, we endeavour to equip pupils with the knowledge and skills to ask questions, think critically and develop their own opinions and judgements. Our History teaching allows children to understand the complexities of life in different time periods, the challenges faced by different societies as well as develop an understanding of the history which is important and relevant to themselves. By the end of Year 6, we intend for children to be able to satisfy a deep sense of curiosity which has been encouraged and fostered throughout their curriculum experience.
