English Writing

Statement of Intent

It is our intent at St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School to provide pupils with a high-quality education in English that will teach pupils to speak, read and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others effectively.

Writing is a crucial part of our curriculum.  Our aim is to develop a purpose for writing that engages children of all ages and abilities, and we seek to provide children with many opportunities to develop and apply their writing skills across the curriculum. Through using high-quality texts and book-led learning, we aim to immerse children in vocabulary rich learning environments, ensuring that by the time they leave St. Joseph’s, they can write clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting their language and style in and for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences. We also intend for pupils to leave school being able to use fluent, legible and speedy handwriting.
